About Heart of Texas Kitchen — Our Story and Mission

Our Story
Made with Love.
Every Single Bite.
Feeding people is my love language. This is the story of why that matters more than ever.

"Cooking and baking have always been my happy place — my love language, my way of showing people they matter."
Where It All Began
A Lifelong Love of the Kitchen
For as long as I can remember, cooking and baking have been my happy place. Not just a hobby — a calling. The kitchen is where I feel most like myself, where I show the people I love that they matter, and where I find joy in the everyday.
Feeding people is my love language. Always has been. A warm meal, a fresh-baked something, a lunch packed with every component carefully separated so nothing gets soggy — that's how I say "I love you" without saying a word.
So when life handed our family a moment that changed everything, the kitchen became more than my happy place. It became our lifeline.
The Moment That Changed Us
A Second Chance on the Golf Course
My husband collapsed on the golf course from a heart attack, while playing golf with my dad. A bystander, who we have since met and become friends with, stepped in and performed CPR — and saved his life. That single act of kindness gave our family everything. We will never stop being grateful.
That day, we learned something that made the whole picture even clearer: he was born missing an artery, a condition that significantly contributed to his heart attack. What happened wasn't just a wake-up call—it was a complete reset, changing how we view health, life, and the future.
The way we cooked had to change. The way we thought about food had to change. And honestly, that surprised us — because we were never an "unhealthy" family. We weren't couch potatoes. We stayed active, kept busy, and ate what most people would consider a pretty normal diet. We just weren't gym people after the arrival of kids, but they keep us very busy, and we never thought that would matter the way it did. But one thing I refused to let change about the new way of cooking...was the joy of it — the love, the flavor, the gathering around the table.
The Taste Testers
Meet the Panel
Every recipe on this site has been approved by the toughest critics I know — my family of four.
My Husband
The Picky One (and the reason for all of this)
The man who inspired this whole journey. He has strong opinions about food, a cardiologist he visits regularly, and a heart that deserves every bit of care we put into these recipes. If he asks for seconds, it's a winner.
Our 15-Year-Old
The Food Critic
Adventurous and fearless — she will try anything once. But don't let that fool you. She is brutally honest, deeply opinionated, and has the palate of someone who should be writing for the New York Times. If it doesn't pass her review, it doesn't make the cut.
Our 12-Year-Old
Picky Eater #2 — Dad's Partner in Crime
Cut from the same cloth as her dad. She knows exactly what she likes and isn't shy about letting you know what she doesn't. If a recipe earns her stamp of approval, it's officially picky-eater certified.
Me
Cook, Baker & Chief Love Language Speaker
I've always believed that feeding people is one of the most meaningful things you can do. And I truly believe you can taste the love and intention that goes into a meal — that the care you put in while cooking finds its way into every bite. This site is my way of sharing that belief — and every recipe, tip, and trick I've learned along the way.
Our Mission
